The Suicide of an Octopus
OCTOPUS ANIMATION

37" [fragment]

THE CIRCUS OCTOPUS
An octopus trained for a circus had been accustomed to do tricks for rewards of food.
When the circus was disbanded, the octopus was kept in a tank
and no one paid any attention to his tricks.
He gradually lost colour and finally went through his tricks a last time,
failed to be rewarded, and used his beak to stab himself so badly that it died.

GLOOMY SUNDAY
was composed in 1936 by Hungarian pianist Rezso Seress.
The original lyrics by Jászló Jávor invited his lover
to join him at his own already planned funeral.
Sadly, the song is said to have inspired many to suicides
and was banned in Hungaria & the UK until 2002
.
