HALF WAY HOME Image Consulting
A self-curated residency-in-residence during my 12 months stay at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien (Berlin). For
a period of up to 2 weeks international artists
were invited to stay, perform, produce and co-produce work in my
studio. The bureau mimicked the common to Germany
IMAGE CONSULTANCY BUREAUS aiming at helping Eastern Germans adjust
to their new Western identity. My agency aimed at portraying
the perfect artist of today and pinpointing his/her
place in modern culture.
Disclosing my
mixed Eastern & Western backgrounds culture clashI made a photo triptych of dual
self-portraits (AGATA EAST/WEST). In the form of performanes I underwent coaching at the authentic image consultancies, where I
was advised on how an artist of the 21st century should present
him/herself (go
see). Individually I questioned these identity issues against the backdrop of the artistic environment and that of the everyday life.
The collaborations with the invited artists generated a series of real-time
happenings – both
live and on the Internet. Our launch party
included a live graffiti session by Berlin’s T2B Crew and a
beatbox/DJ session (go
see). This was followed by Roosje
Klap’s Club Plak poster project on
tour from Amsterdam (go
see), by Sport.01 – a
Swedish artist- and musician duo: Allen Grubesic and Karl Tuikkannen
(go
see), and by street-artist
and DJ Raimond Chaves from Columbia (go
see). The project provoked much active
artistic- and critical exchange.
THE CALENDAR-CATALOGUE
(tear-off calendar, 500 copies, 12pgs, 30x42cm standing)
Project HALF WAY HOME ended with a review exhibition of all the produced works(go
see) and a showcase of the documented
video footage. It resulted in a catalogue in the form of a tear-off calendar.
